The craft of gilding is an age old skill that has been developed over time to what we recognise today, the application of gold leaf to a substrate including wood, metal, gesso, glass, stone and others.

Portfolio

The Royal Crescent, Bath

I was contacted by Bagnalls to assist in the restoration of five ornate lamp posts situated on the iconic Royal Crescent. They were in a very poor condition and the skilled team of decorators brought them forward to a good place where I was able to reinstate the gilding and decorative paint work.

The Good Oak, Nottinghill

This bar gantry was created as a focal point for a gastro pub not far from Portobello Market. The pub was undergoing a complete refurbishment and our task was to transform a grey primed steel structure into a brushed copper finish.

Queens Tower, Imperial College

This iconic London landmark is undergoing an extensive restoration. The finial that sits on the very top of the tower was in poor condition and required stripping, consolidating and finally gilding using 23.5ct Manetti gold leaf. The result speaks for itself!

23ct Gold Leaf Wall

A remarkable farmhouse conversion featuring our 10m2 Italian gold leaf feature wall in a classy dining room made for entertaining.

Copper Leaf Feature Wall

This gilded feature wall lifted the space in a contemporary apartment and has brought some life to a stark living room. Finished in a high gloss lacquer the copper leaf catches your attention.

Seven Dials Sundial, Covent Garden

The Seven Dials Trust tasked me with the restoration of the iconic sundial. The friable surface was consolidated and repainted with Keim Mineral paint. The hour lines, disks and orb were gilded in 23.75ct 16g Manetti gold leaf. The sundial is beaming once again!

Biography

Kevin Ruggeri is an experienced gilder and restorer based in London. He has been classically trained in gilding with a frame making background which lead on to restoration and conservation. Over the years he has gained a wide range of skills which have been applied to his works. Passionate about traditional craft he believes it is important to share his knowledge and experience allowing these specialist skills to continue in the future.
